Deconstructed Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 C flour
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 C chilled, cubed, unsalted butter
  • 1/4-1/2 C ice water

Directions

  1. Pulse dry ingredients in a food processor.
  2. Add butter and pulse to combine.
  3. With machine running, add 1/4 C. water and then additional water by 1 TBSP increments until the dough holds together.
  4. Divide into two balls, flatten, wrap and chill at least 1 hour.
  5. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes

Sautéed Apples

Ingredients

  • 2 TBSP butter
  • 4 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced 1/4" thick
  • ½ C brown sugar
  • ¾ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 TBSP cornstarch
  • ½ C water

Directions

  1. Melt butter over medium low heat in a saucepan.
  2. Add the apples, turn the heat up to medium and cook, stirring constantly for 8 minutes or until the apples are tender.
  3. While the apples are cooking, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon and cloves in a separate bowl.
  4. Sprinkle the sugar over the just tender apples and cook until the sugar melts.
  5. In a separate bowl mix the cornstarch and water.
  6. Add the cornstarch and water to the apples and sugar, bring to a boil and let cook for 2 minutes, until thick.
